In the series presenting the streets and famous buildings of Debrecen, this time you can get to know the history of the former Sesztina Villa and the Sesztina family in Big Forest, Nagyerdei körút 68. This is interesting partly because the building has been managed by the University of Debrecen for more than seventy years, partly because the International Office moved here in the spring after the renovation of the house, and thirdly because the villa’s namesake and former owner, Jenő Sesztina, he also supported many higher education programs, including he was one of the founders of DEAC.

Writer Mark Fisher, a critic, is a defining figure in critical research. He has published a total of three books so far, of which Capitalist Realism was published in 2019. We were able to meet the first edition of this in Hungary in 2020. The central message of the volume is in one sentence: it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism. The unfolding of the idea can also be read in University Life.

The members of the University Theater of Debrecen (DES Theater) were very much looking forward to the end of the forced closure caused by the virus. At the beginning of the summer, they were seen working again in the downtown creative center provided by the city, at 24 Batthyány Street and its cozy park. Zsigmond Lakó, the responsible director of the DES Theater, was asked by a member of the paper to evaluate the summer season enriched with the programs.

In the sports section, you can read, among other things, that the DEAC Cheerleaders team represented the University of Debrecen in four competitions this year, and the competitions were closed with nice results. The performance was analyzed by Adrienn Ócs, the team’s head coach and competitor for University Life.
