There will be a poetry festival in Debrecen again

Culture Local News

This year, the Debrecen Poetry Festival entitled “A Paleolithic Telegram” will be held again, focusing on the poetry of Ágnes Nemes Nagy, who was born a hundred years ago, the organizers announced in Debrecen.

Two years ago, the festival was missed due to a coronavirus epidemic, and it was held online last year. This year, however, friends of poems, literature and the arts are welcome at several venues, including programs related to the city day, he added.

April 9-14. The festival, which will be held for the 19th time between 2006 and 2006, has become an integral part of the city’s cultural fabric and will also provide an opportunity to talk about Debrecen’s place in national literature, István Puskás emphasized.

Péter Szirák, the curator of the festival, remarked on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ágnes Nemes Nagy:

“the children’s poems of the excellent poet, essayist, and literary translator are still known to many from their preschool and elementary school ages, but the popularity and canonical place of this extensive and extremely complex oeuvre are still not as significant as its poetic accomplishment would warrant.”

The curation of Ágnes Nemes Nagy – like Pilinszky, who was commemorated at the festival on the occasion of her centenary last year – is deeply embedded in the European lyrical tradition in terms of worldview, tone, and form culture, the curator explained.

He added that the career of Ágnes Nemes Nagy will be recalled in a roundtable discussion with the participation of literary historians and poets, Ágnes Balajthy, Noémi Kiss, Gábor Schein, and the moderator, Péter Fodor.

The mystery of poetry will also be highlighted in the presentation in Debrecen of the poetry volume of the poet Szilárd Borbély, who died in 2014, published in Bukolikatáj, were Gábor Schein and Valastyán.

The always inseparable poem and music meet with the guest appearances of Anna T. Szabó and András Dés, but they will also host an indispensable recitation competition at the festivals, which will also be framed by the Noble Great Centenary this year, the curator added.
