Debrecen to Host Finnish Film Festival for 1st Time

Organized by Finnagora, five feature films will be screened between November 8 and 10, each film with English and Hungarian subtitles. According to their information, Finnagora has already organized the Finnish Film Days in Budapest eleven times.

In Debrecen, the opening film of the event will be Tove, directed by Zaida Bergroth, on Tuesday evening. The film is about the Finnish-Swedish artist Tove Jansson and her life in Helsinki after the war.

One of the highlights of the festival is the film The Blind Man Who Didn’t Want to See Titanic, which won the Audience Award at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The film presents the perspective of Jaakko, who is blind and paralyzed from the chest down. Jaakko decides to set out to find his love, Sirpa, and for this, he will need the help of five strangers.

On the film days, those interested can watch the films First Snow, The Night Forgives and Ladies of Steel at the Apolló cinema in Debrecen, the organizers indicated.
